IAH – Episode 72 – Andrew Gurevich

The final IAH podcast of 2016 brings you the great Andrew Gurevich. Andrew is as good a social, cultural historian/philosopher as they come. Our talk covered the vast landscapes of rising and falling ideologies, why looking at our past is important, social media and how to be a better inhabitant and of course a recap of latter day 2016 and how we got here. I hope to do more podcasts with Andrew as he really is a model for well rounded wise and balanced thinking.

JRE Episode #891 with Zach Leary

Clearly getting the call to come on the Joe Rogan Experience is the one you want to get if you have a podcast that’s at all an irreverent stab at analyzing the cultural multi-verse. Without Rogan it can probably be said that the genre wouldn’t exist in the healthy and vibrant way that it does now. He’s the OG Jedi master. That of course means that getting that call to come on the show is thrilling, surreal, nerve racking but ultimately a fantastically joyful manifestation from the Gods.

It was a blast to do. Did it go as well as I wanted it to go? No. Were my expectations of myself too high? Yes. Do I want a do-over? Yes. That said, there’s some good stuff in it and I’m happy I even got the chance. Joe was kind, welcoming and generous with his time and attention. I hope you enjoy it.

I’m honored to be a part of it and hope that I can help steer the podcast into the high-quality show that it deserves to be. Thank you to Brad Burge, Matt Neal and Rick Doblin for having me involved. God speed!

IAH – Episode 71 – Daniel Pinchbeck

Daniel Pinchbeck has successfully morphed himself into of the most sought after, poignant and razor sharp social critics and consciousness surveyors of our time. His latest book “How Soon is Now” is like a how-to survival guide for the complicated world we are forging our way into. He stopped by the kitchen table to talk about the book, going “down and in”, some politics, new economic systems and a whole bunch of other stuff. One hour with Daniel is just scratching the surface. It was a pleasure to spend some time with him and I hope we get to do it again. Also, be sure to pick up a copy of “How Soon Is Now” when it’s released in February of 2017.

His new book, How Soon Is Now, comes out in Februrary, 2017. Featuring a preface from Sting and an introduction from Russell Brand, How Soon Is Now? looks at the ecological crisis as a rite of passage or initiation for humanity and proposes a “blueprint for the future” – how we must redesign our technical and social systems to avert the worst consequences of ecological collapse.

The Spirit Matters Podcast

I really enjoyed doing this podcast. I love every one that I’m so honored to be asked to do but this one was special because it was a chance for me to transparent and specific about my spiritual practice and views on practical devotion. The Spirit Matters hosts are very insightful old-school practitioners and Phil Goldberg’s book “American Veda” is WELL worth getting into.

They wrote:

Zach Leary is the host of the “It’s All Happening” podcast. He calls himself “a blogger/writer, a futurist, spiritualist, digital branding specialist and self-proclaimed social theorist.” He is a practitioner of bhakti yoga as taught through many of the Vedantic systems of Northern India, which “unlock doorways that allow the soul to experience its true nature of being eternal, full of knowledge and full of bliss.” Zach has also been influenced by other methods and traditions of consciousness exploration, ranging from trans-humanism to Buddhism and clinical psychology. At the core of his work is the belief that we have been fused together by the use of technology, spirituality and mysticism to define the very nature of who we are. We spoke about bhakti, chanting, his podcast and growing up with a unique and controversial father, Timothy Leary.

IAH – Episode 69 – Mirabai Bush

Another episode that was recorded live from the “Open in Your Heart in Paradise” retreat in Maui with Ram Dass, Krishna Das, Jack Kornfield and more! Mirabai Bush has consistently been one of my favorite teachers at these retreats and was kind enough to sit down with me for an episode covering an exploration into the now famous “just like me” practice, mindfulness in the military, the need to dig deeper and uncover all sides of a situation and some of the early days of eastern exploration in the America. I just love being with Mirabai, hearing her talk and hanging out in her field. She’s one of the great wisdom keepers on the path today. Follow her work if you’re not already.

INTRO RANT: social media vulnerability

Mirabai Bush teaches contemplative practices and develops programs through the application of contemplative principles and values to organizational life.  Her work with individuals and organizations includes entrepreneurial project management, compassionate staff-board relations, organizational leadership, public relations, communication, networking, and strategic relationship building all through the lens of contemplative practice in action.
