IAH – Episode 12 – Danny Goldberg

Music business legend, podcaster, friend and prayer expert Danny Goldberg gets into all of it with us.

Danny Goldberg, President of GoldVE Entertainment, has worked in the music business as a personal manager, record company President, public relations man and journalist since the late nineteen sixties. GoldVE Entertainment was formed in July 2007 and marks the return to artist management for Goldberg. A complete roster of artists can be found here. Goldberg is also a consultant to the forthcoming HBO series “Vinyl”. From 1983-1992, Goldberg was the founder and President of Gold Mountain Entertainment, an artist management firm whose clients included Nirvana, Hole, Sonic Youth, Beastie Boys, Bonnie Raitt, The Allman Brothers, Rickie Lee Jones and more. Directly prior to the creation of GoldVE Entertainment, Goldberg had been the CEO of Air America Radio from 2005 until mid-2006. Goldberg formed the independent label Artemis Records in 1999 and ran the company until January of 2005.

Danny also hosts a very cool new podcast called “Rock and Roles”:

Politics

Ram Dass on Politics

“One of the systems we’re part of, of course, is the political system. We may wish we weren’t part of it often, but we are. And all of those people playing with the power of the medium of politics, and its effect on the media and its effect on collective human consciousness, and those people that are addicted to power are there because of us. It boils down to that. That we create a field in which they can play with power, and that power is more or less compassionate. And the political system is a system in which as long as you have a passport, you are a member of it whether you like it or not. You’re part of a government, and your not voting is voting. So there’s no way out. You can’t say, “I’m not going to have anything to do with politics.” You can say it, but you’ve got to watch where you’re saying it from. You may say, “I’m not going to get involved with politics because I am so busy with something else that I think is my dominant theme, and I’ll vote, but I’m not going to put my time into campaigning for candidates and things like that, or issues, because my energies are best used here.” That’s fine. If you’ve thought it through and felt that way and can look somebody in the eye and say, “This is the way it is.” If you’re saying, “I’m not having anything to do with politics because it’s too dirty and because I don’t approve of it,”. Forget it – you are abdicating your responsibility to society. It’s as simple as that.” Ram Dass – 1995

Grace

Grace is a path and a mood of love and service to the divine. Not a destination or a feeling we attain by our own will or desires. If we are steadfast in our unconditional love for the divine then grace will be bestowed upon us like the most beautiful lotus petals that arise from the muddy depths of ignorance.

IAH – Episode 11 – David Silver

Zach and Elijah get into contemplating the silent freeways of life with David Silver. David is truly one of the great minds and souls of this or any other incarnation.

David is the co-host of the excellent MindRolling Podcast. His standard bio is as follows but I assure you it only scratches the surface.

David Silver started his innovative media career in the late sixties hosting WGBH-TV’s “What’s Happening Mr. Silver?” David’s 1979 Warner Brothers feature “No Nukes” helped start the whole trend of music/activism feature documentaries.

He also wrote the Billboard #1 MGM film, “The Compleat Beatles” the biopic movie of choice about history’s most famous band. David has worked with Bruce Springsteen, Bob Marley, Ringo Starr, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Roger Waters and many others. He has created dozens of CD’s and movies, including pairing Allen Ginsberg with Paul McCartney, and producing the film biography of Timothy Leary. In 2009, David was the consultant to Ang Lee, the Academy Award-winning director, on his Universal/Focus Features release, “Taking Woodstock.” Since 2006, he has also been writing, directing and consulting with Ram Dass’s Love Serve Remember Foundation and, in 2012, directed the “Cultivating Loving Awareness” documentary.
